THE LEGACY
Back in the 1920’s in a Guatemalan town called Quetzaltenango, founder Sofia’s great-grandmother Doña Andrea Gramajo created a moonshine distillery. It only took ten years for it to become one of the largest distilleries in Central America, making Doña a recognized leading female entrepreneur in Guatemala. However, a few years into Doña’s success, fascist dictator Jorge Ubico seized the property, giving it to his political allies as spoils. Today, Sofia has set out on a mission to reinvigorate the proud legacy her family created by creating the next generation of rum, made by the family that inherited her great-grandmother’s distillery when it was seized. Tenango is an homage to family, good times, and a female entrepreneurial spirit that will live on.
